How to get your Epson Perfection 1200U Flatbed Scanner running on Windows7 64 bit.

Updated November 2015 with working link to driver file.

Anyone with this scanner should find this post of use.
I have owned an Epson Perfection 1200U Flatbed scanner since about 2000, a great quality scanner. I recently upgraded my main PC to Windows 7 64 bit after sticking with Windows XP for many years. When I went to the Epson support website to get the latest drivers I was annoyed to find that the Epson Perfection 1200U is NOT supported for Windows7 at all. None of the drivers would work with it. I did not want to have to buy another scanner as there was nothing wrong with this one.

After much searching I found an answer and it worked perfectly, I have been using it for a few days without any problems. Thankfully someone has altered a driver for another Epson scanner then repacked it for the Epson Perfection 1200U.

1) Make sure you have removed any previous failed driver installs.
2)  Download the Windows 7 64bit driver here:
Windows 7 64bit driver for Epson Perfection 1200U

3) Extract the setup files and run setup.
4) Once it has installed the driver connect the flatbed scanner to the USB port. It should say it found the driver ok and the device is ready to use.
5) Double click the "EPSON Scan" icon on your desktop and it should show this panel (I changed the view to Professional Mode using the top right button)

6) Give it a go! All the functions seem to work ok.
To recap this is the Windows 7 64 bit driver for an Epson Perfection 1200U flatbed scanner.

Adding the Epson Perfection 1200U into Paint Shop Photo Pro X3:
1) Once you have followed my instructions above run PSP
2) Goto the File menu - Import - TWAIN Source and select "WIA-EPSON Perfection 1200 1.0(32-32)" and click Select button. You can now scan documents directly into PSP using the Scan button in PSP.

  5. Thought my Epson Perfection 1200U scanner was a relic. Your modified driver works perfectly at a good time when I have to scan some larger family photos on my windows 7 64 bit system. Thanks.

  6. I don't know if you are still monitoring this post, but I would be grateful if you could help me...

I'm also thinking of upgrading to Win 7 from XP and have an Epson 1200 scanner which still works fine. I don't, therefore, really want to spend money on a new scanner.

My specific question is whether you think the SLIDE scanner will still function if I follow the advice in your post, as I have an enormous amount of slides to scan (4000 of them from travels in the 1970s!)

    Many thanks!

    1. Hi the answer is YES. I used this program to scan a negative a couple of weeks ago. It has the option to do do the extra options available on this scanner. It may be 2013 but that 13 year old scanner still works well.

  8. Thank you so much. A lifeline for my trusty old scanner!
What's more, there are new options in this driver that I never had before, such as save to PDF. Brilliant!

  9. Great! It really worked! Take the rest of the day off!
None of those faulty configuration contortions that other people 'recommend' to get this fine Epson Perfection 1200U working at last on Windows 7 -- and 64bit to boot! I've been searching a long time for this fix. If anyone from Epson is reading this, they need to reward the people who fixed the problem they refused to fix. Oh, that's right, have to stay in business by selling a new scanner and filling the landfills up with perfectly okay electronics!

  10. Many thanks for posting the link to this driver. I downloaded it, installed it and had my Perfection 1200U operational on Windows 7 within minutes.

A question ... where can I get the Film Adapter (B81317) to enable me to scan negatives and slides.

    Once again Many Thanks.

  13. Dear Andy,
Thank you so much for making this driver available. Now I can use my perfectly good Epson Perfection 1200U with my new Windows 7 Pro 64bit operating system. I have only done a test scan so far. This is even better than the previous driver I had for Windows XP because this one can scan straight to PDF also. I am also very happy.
    Kindest regards,
    Ross

  14. Windows 8.1 64-bit refused to install this driver, complaining: "The third-party INF does not include a digital signature" and that appeared to be the end of the matter. BUT ... you can over-ride the default setting that imposes this requirement - instructions in the following YouTube clip: http://preview.tinyurl.com/pjcm3tk - very easy and all works well. Thanks for the pointer.

  15. Dear Andy,
Awesome mate. Done it and working super. Thank you so much.
I already have a 'so call' good quality printer/scanner The HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus, but each time when I switch it on, it took 15 to 20min Pin Head cleaning before it is ready. I have enough of this waiting time.
Now I use a cheap Brother HL-2142 Mono Laser printer, switch on and ready in second, and go with my old Epson 1200 Photo scanner, I am all set again, thank you again for helping out.

  16. Thanks so much Andy. After many years of successful scanning with Windows XP, I thought my great Epson Perfection scanner would be obsolete having just changed to Windows 7 64bit.. The software wouldn't load - then I found this site. GREAT!

    1. Hi, I suggest unplug scanner, uninstall espon scan, reboot pc, reinstall epson scan, plug the scanner into a DIFFERENT USB socket then run epson scan and select the scanner. Maybe will work then? Andy

  20. Andy,
I have just successfully run this driver, trying all the options I might need with my Epson Perfection 1200 Photo on my laptop (Windows 7 64-bit). I can now safely retire my aged and slow Windows XP PC!
Many thanks for finding and sharing it. Thanks also to whoever adapted the origial driver.
