I took this video on a recent visit to Sheffield to their beer and cider festival.
Sit back and enjoy the beautiful warm sounds of Loxley silver band performing Adele's "Someone Like You". This brass band were formed in 1889 !
The band performed on Saturday 26th October 2013. This was one of many songs they played at the beer festival. Hope you enjoy their version of this popular song.

Sheffield Beer festival 2013. The 39th Steel City Beer and Cider Festival, 23rd Oct to 26th Oct. 2013

The 39th annual Steel City Beer and Cider Festival will take place from Wednesday October 23rd to Saturday October 26th at Ponds Forge in Sheffield city centre.

Here is a panoramic photograph of the beer festival last year.
Around 150 real ales showcasing local breweries plus interesting beers from rest of the UK and a good range of real ciders and perry. Food available at all sessions, also features stalls and games.
Live music most evening sessions. Quiz Saturday afternoon.
At the Sheffield beer and cider festival they use Beer tokens as payment. You swap your cash for £1 or 10p tokens at the cash desk on entry you can then pay for everything with these tokens. You get your change in 10p tokens. This makes it better for the staff as there is no money to deal with. Additional tokens can be bought from a desk in the hall if you run out.

Video of the Worlds most powerful steam engine ever built. 12000 Horse Power. The River Don Engine, Sheffield.
This is the World's most powerful steam engine ever built. 12000 Horse Power (8.9 MW).
This is the River Don Engine at Kelham Island Museum, Sheffield, UK.
This massive engine weighs 420 tons and stands 28 foot high, 40 foot long !
You need to turn up the sound or use headphones and play it fullscreen at 720p to get an idea of how powerfull this thing really is.

I can highly recommend going to this museum to see this in steam, very impressive indeed.
I've seen some impressive Victorian engineering in the past but this is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. The sheer power in this beast has to be seen in person.
See it in steam Monday - Thursday 12pm and 2pm and Sunday 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.
It is not always running though due to maintenance so check with the museum first if traveling a long way to see it.
This is a stationary steam powered mill for making steel armour plate for the hulls of battleships.
It is able to reverse from full speed in just 2 seconds. The rapid reverse was an essential feature of an engine used for rolling, as delays would result in cooling of the workpiece.
Four identical mills were made but the other three have since been scrapped.
There is a short video you can watch of this mill when it was still in use. This video display is near the entrance to the engine area.

Videos of the St George's Day celebrations in Sheffield 2013, Morris Men and Giant dancers.
This is a set of videos I took of the 2013 St. George's Day celebrations in Sheffield City Centre.
They performed in various places such as in front of Sheffield town hall, the Peace Gardens and Barkers Pool. They attracted a large crowd of people, visitors and locals alike. Look out for them next St George's Day in Sheffield.
The Sheffield City Giants you can see here in two of my videos were presented to the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, who accepted them on behalf of the City on 4th July 1992. They had been created by the Catalan Giant maker, Jordi Grau (honoured in the dance Jordi's) under commission from the Sheffield Festival to produce a pair of giants according to the theme of the festival 'Life and Death'. It was, however, contrary to Catalan custom to represent Death and with this in mind, the theme was altered to 'War and Peace'.

Video of a skipping unicyclist in Sheffield Oct 2012. You gotta see this !
About 1:30pm on Saturday 6th October 2012 we came across this funny street performer on Fargate near to Norfolk Row, in Sheffield, UK.
His show lasted for about 45 minutes, he kept you in anticipation as you wanted to see him on the unicycle.
My video of the skipping unicyclist :
The Chilean comedian, from Sheffield, put his tricks to the test in front of dozens of shoppers on Fargate. Crowds laughed as he juggled, skipped and dodged knives while bouncing along on his unicycle.
The grand finale of his act is when he skips with a long rope while on the unicycle !

This is a video of Graffiti heaven at Sheffield Railway Station Footbridge, Walk along here in the dark if you dare!!!!
This is a trip across the footbridge at Sheffield Railway Station in October 2012.
I don't think I'd like to walk along this when its dark as there is no lighting in this bridge and its got very high walls to it.
In the second part of the video I've tried to go all arty, see if you like it.

Sheffield urban art, From Arnie to the Steel worker. View from a window in October 2012.
While on a recent visit to Sheffield, I noticed this Arnie "i'll be back" graffiti above the co-op building on Angel Street. I wonder how many people walk along Angel Street each day and have never seen it. You can't see it from street level.
The "Steel Worker" was created in 1986 by artist Paul Waplington from 30,000 bricks of 18 different types and 5 types of mortar and is located on the end of a four storey building on Castle Street, near the Law Courts, Sheffield.

My review of the 38th annual Steel City Beer and Cider Festival, Sheffield.
This years Sheffield Beer Festival (38th annual Steel City Beer and Cider Festival) finished on Saturday night. This beer festival was located at Ponds Forge sports centre in Sheffield, this was quite east to find as its a large modern building near the City Centre. The Supertram runs down the side of it and its just down't road from railway station.
I did not go every session as we were at an Ultravox gig on Thursday night and a Dara o'briain gig on Friday night at the City Hall.
This is the first time we have seen the beer token method of payment. You swap your cash for £1 or 10p tokens at the cash desk on entry you can then pay for everything with these. You get your change in 10p tokens. This makes it better for the staff as there is no money to deal with.
The festival took place in the massive "International sports hall". The main beer bar ran down the middle and was double sided as you can see. The cider bar was in the corner near the CAMRA membership desk.
In the other corner was the funny T-shirt stand (like you always get at beer festivals) and a tombola. Next to this was the food area.
Down the other side was the stage for live bands, a pub games stand and the Beef Curtains stall selling beef jerky products. There were plenty of seats and tables for people which was a nice change.
The barmaid at the Cider bar said that all of the ciders she had ordered had been delivered and were all on ready to try.
The most unique drink ever tasted was the Gwatkins Squeal Pig Perry, this was actually sour ! but really nice, never tasted a perry like this ever.

Video of Sheffield Life in Time-lapse May 2012, viewed from Arundel Gate
Here is my latest time-lapse video. This film was made using my home made time-lapse intervalometer for the Nikon D70 Camera.
The footage was filmed on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th May 2012 and all shot from a 5th floor window on Arundel Gate looking towards Sheffield Railway Station.

Video of Gary Numan at O2 Academy Sheffield on 25th May 2012.
We went to see Gary Numan at the O2 Academy in Sheffield a couple of weeks ago on his Machine Music Tour 2012. Even though Gary is 54, he does not seem to have aged at all from when I remember him in the early 80s.
Someone who was at the same concert has captured his great performance of Are 'Friends' Electric?

Sheffield winter garden, A video tour around this beautiful place in May 2012.
I have visted this amazing building many times in the last three years
and it really is well worth a visit if you are in the area. Its right
next to the Novotel and Mercure hotels in sheffield.
I have tried to capture the feeling of the place in my video tour of the building.

Sheffield winter garden is located in the city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK.
Its home to more than 2,000 plants from all around the world, even though it looks like a greenhouse the temperatue is quite pleasant.
On the day I filmed (27th May) it was 27c outside but it was nice and coolish in here.

Video - The 2012 Sheffield Half Marathon, Sunday 27th May 2012.
While in Sheffield over the weekend the Sheffield Half Marathon took place on the Sunday morning, here is my video of some of the runners. Well done to all who took part in this, it was absolutely roasting hot. Too hot to even watch it let alone be a runner.
5792 runners took part in this Half Marathon. I did not film every runner!

John Franklin was the first man across the finish lane of Sheffield's Half Marathon today with a time of 1:10:31
Steve Davis, who was running for the Paul Hunter Foundation, made it across the finish line in 2 hours 42 minutes.
Were YOU the mankini man (No 5645) ! or Mickey Mouse?, if so leave a comment
I captured these runners about 10.40am on Sunday 27th May 2012.
The first set of runners is on Pinstone Street (in front of Sheffield town hall)
The second lot of runners are on Barker's Pool (in front of Sheffield City Hall) and the final set of runners were on Division Street.
The Sheffield Half Marathon incorporates the Yorkshire Half Marathon Championships and the South Yorkshire Half Marathon Championships.
The Sheffield Half Marathon starts and finishes in the Don Valley Stadium, the Sheffield Half Marathon leads runners though and around Sheffield's city centre.

John Parrott & Steve Davis in Sheffield Winter gardens for world snooker 2012.
On a recent trip to Sheffield we forgot that the World Snooker was on at the Crucible and also the after play discussions were taking place in the Winter Gardens.
I managed to get a nice photograph of John Parrott & Steve Davis while there were being interviewed as you can see here.

Videos of the 2012 St George's Day celebrations in Sheffield. Morris Men and Giants
On Saturday 21st April 2012 while in Sheffield there were some celebrations to Commemorate St George's Day.
This took place in front of the Town Hall on Pinstone Street and in the Peace Gardens.
There were several sets of dancers including clog dancers, Morris Men and some Dancing Giants.
I filmed this on my iPhone 3GS so no HD footage on this one.

Video of 2011 Sheffield Christmas lights with night time views of Peace Gardens and Railway Station waterfall.
Here is a video I shot on Thursday/Friday night in Sheffield of the 2011 Christmas lights, I have also included
lots of night time footage of the Sheffield Peace Gardens and the Railway Station water feature.
We were in Sheffield to see two 80s bands, Adam Ant on 15th and Go West on the 16th, both at the Sheffield o2 Academy. Both gigs were great.

The cheapest train ticket from Derby to Sheffield is with a Derbyshire Wayfarer, this costs £8.90 and that's unlimited travel on train and bus all day! This ticket can not be put in the barrier machine at Derby so you have to goto the wide barrier entrance to get the guard to let you through, remember to keep the ticket.

Visit Sheffield by train from Derby using a Derbyshire Wayfarer to save lots of money.
Sheffield currently has a big wheel located on Fargate, seeing as Derby are not having one this year why not have a ride on their wheel. The Wheel of Sheffield costs £6.50 for Adults/£4.50 for Children and the 60m high ride lasts for about 13 minutes. You can book it online using the web address above.
There is a special train ticket that you can get that I've not heard of before but the savings you can make
are pretty good.
Normally two return train tickets Derby to Sheffield would cost £34.80 (or £26 if you manage to catch one of the few cheaper journeys available)
But if you ask for a Derbyshire Wayfarer all day travel ticket then it will only cost you £15.10 !.
Not only that but for £15.10 you can actually take three children as well.
Not only that but you can use the Derbyshire Wayfarer on all buses in Derbyshire.
Not only that but you can also make unlimited journeys all day on both train and bus.
As you can see the Derbyshire Wayfarer is outstanding value and well worth it.
For a single person the Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket costs £8.90 (includes one child) so even that's cheaper
than buying a normal return train ticket. (Derby to Sheffield=£8.70 + Sheffield to Derby=£8.70 Total=£17.40). You save £8.50
It consists of a single normal train ticket that is stuck onto a blue "Derbyshire Wayfarer" card, you only get one ticket regardless of how many are travelling on it, its just the price paid that indicates how many it covers. Of course you cant put the ticket through the automatic ticket barrier at Derby Railway Station because of the card its stuck on so you simply show the ticket to the guard and they let you though.
In the month of August there is a free daily tour of the town hall which takes place at 2pm each day. Just
meet in the reception of the hall to go on the tour. The tour lasts about an hour and is very interesting if
you are into history.
Sheffield Town Hall was officially opened on 21st May, 1897 by Queen Victoria, you can see a photograph of the opening day in a display case in the reception of the Town Hall, during the tour they will tell you about the key she turned to open the doors.
There are plenty of places to visit such as the Crucible Theatre, The Winter Gardens, Sheffield Museum.
At some point in the next week or so I will be posting a video of Sheffield that I took of some of the sights
and a tour of the Town Hall.
If you have not been to Sheffield before or have not visited for a few years then why not take a trip there.
