Red Bull Quadcopter, 360 degree and high tech filming at Ashbourne Shrovetide Football 2014.

While I was at this years Ashbourne Shrovetide Football on Tuesday 4th March and Wednesday 5th of March I noticed some new and unusual filming going on. Perhaps you saw them too?

The first thing that was rather obvious was a quadcopter flying over the crowd, well just out of the way of the crowd.
Apparently this was being filmed for Red Bull, I took two photographs of the Quadcopter when it landed.
As you can see its being controlled by two people, one to fly the quadcopter and another operator for the camera control.
This is a nice bit of kit, must have some serious power in those 8 blades to lift that camera up, it was very stable in the air too.

Film Crew No 2
Another filming unit I saw consisted of four people. This consisted of a very fancy camera which was held aloft, a microphone boom operator, a camera operator and a support guy.
I took a few photographs of this crew.
The camera that was being help up in the air has all sorts of interesting stuff on it. As you can see the actual camera is hung below the framework. This is being controlled remotely by the woman. She has a screen shield to view the footage and a remote control to control the view that is being captured.











Film Crew No. 3
Another capturing method I saw a few of was a 360 degree camera on a pole. I saw a few of these during the game.
As you can see it consists of 6 small wide angle cameras made into the shape of a cube.
Not sure if they were capturing single shot 360 degree images or 360 degree video.

Video of the amazing "Chameleon glass" on Derby College created using Dichroic film.

This is a very short video I made, showing off the amazing colour changing glass panels that have been fitted to the Derby College Roundhouse on Pride Park.

This is the first building in the UK to have been fitted with this technology. I had been meaning to film this for a long time now, then discovered that the free shuttle bus that goes to the Derby Winter Beer Festival goes along that very road.

My video of the Dichroic film causing the colour to change as you drive past Derby College.



As you can see the 3M Dichroic film alters its colour depending on the angle you view it from.

Dichroic glass changes colour as the viewer moves in relation to the glass. The glass has a transparent colour and a reflective colour, which will often be opposite colours of the spectrum. These two colours alternate or mix in varying proportions depending on the direction from which the highest light level is coming. The colours will also change as the viewer's angle of incidence changes.


"Dichroic glass" is a lot more expensive than film. Derby does not have many glass buildings but the iconic restoration of the Roundhouse looks really good with this Dichroic film.

Amazing never before seen videos of events in Derby from the 1960s by local film maker Arthur Blood.

I was recently introduced to a local film maker by the name of Arthur Blood who has kindly given me a selection of short films that he made in the 1960s using 8m cine film. Arthur captured many local events of the time, mostly relating to the Derby Carriage and Wagon Works where he started work in 1939, at the age of 14. I would like to thank him for choosing me to showcase his collection on my Derby videos channel so that people can enjoy them.
I'm sure there will be something of interest to anyone from Derby, if you work at Bombardier today then you may well recognise some of the buildings.

Who is this Actor and what is being filmed here?

Last Sunday morning while on a break in London there was some filming being done on Duke's Road, Camden. I took these photographs on Sunday 16th October 2011.

Anybody know who this actor is and what they are filming?
Looks like its set in the 1940s, I don't recognise the actor. Could be a film or a TV series. I'm sure someone out there will recognise this.

The filming was attracting lots of attention from passers by, The only reason I spotted it was because of the old bus.




Duke's Road is a side street off Euston Road which is the main road that runs past St Pancras International railway station.

That Lucozade TV advert is 'Buck Rogers' by The James Cleaver Quintet.

If you know my other websites then you will know I used to run one of the most popular UK TV advert websites ten years ago, before such things as online videos took off. Im still a fan of some adverts, these days they are very polished productions. One TV advert which caught my eye recently which I like a lot is a Lucozade one where this band are playing music while rolling down a very steep hill. A great idea and a nice track too.

Here is a screen grab of the band as they come down Albion Hill and take the corner down Grove Hill. Below the screen grab is the same location as captured by Google Streetview. As you can see looks like they painted the yellow Lucozade sign on that house, or perhaps they did it with C.G.I.?

Filming location for the Lucozade TV advert.
I have found the location that this great music video was filmed, its on Albion Hill and Grove Hill in Brighton, UK. Here here a link to the Google Streetview of this bend in the road.

I always enjoy finding the locations of where films and videos were shot, You get a real "eureka moment" when you are able to see the very same place that something was filmed. The filming location used for Thames House in the BBC TV series Spooks.

I have just returned from a visit to London and while there I tracked down the location that is used for Thames House (MI5 base) in the BBC TV series Spooks. If you have never seen Spooks then I recommend it, its yet another great production by Kudos. They are the production company that made Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes Hustle and The Fixer amongst others.

The building they used as Thames House is actually a Freemasons' Hall located on Great Queen Street in London. It felt very strange seeing this building in real life after seeing it so much on the TV show.

Here is my photograph of the building and below it I have taken a screen grab from the DVD of Spooks so you can see its the very same building.



There have been 9 series of this great show so far and [Spooks] is set to return soon.
Series 10 of Spooks starts on September 18th 2011.

If you want to catch up with series 1 to 9 before series 10 starts then you can get them all on DVD now.
You will have to watch 80 episodes though so you best get watching today !
This will be the very last ever series of Spooks so I hope its a good one.

Rare old cine film of Allenton and Osmaston in snow filmed in 1965.

I have just been given some absolutely amazing rare cine film footage of the Allenton and Osmaston areas of Derby during some snow in 1965. This was filmed by Dave Upton.

I would like to thank Dave for allowing me to share this footage with a greater audience.
I really enjoy watching old local video like this, I could watch it for hours. I find it really interesting trying to work out the locations and all the little details that have been captured.
If your not that old (like me) then you won't remember such things as Trolley buses and you probably think the "Spider bridge" at Allenton has always been there. Well here in this video you will see a different era to the one you may know.

Flash Forward TV series, FBI building location.

Are you a fan of the TV series Flashforward? I was wondering where that building is located that is used as the FBI building, it seems to be floating on water.
I have found the building, its actually The Department of Water and Power and is located at 111 North Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012-2607.
You may remember episode 15 "Queen Sacrifice" where Marcy and Janis have a fight in the water around this building when they uncover her as a mole in the FBI.
