Well Dressing is a Derbyshire thing, celebrated in lots of Derbyshire villages every year.




While visiting the Well dressings here in Tissington I also captured 19 different 360 degree views which are now added to Google maps such as. I have captured all of the Well Dressings in Google Streetview photographs. Here are a few of them....

My Google Streetviews at Mundy Play Centre, Markeaton Park, Derby.

The great thing about the Summer is you can go out and take photographs very early as its so light so I seized the opportunity to go and capture some 360 degree Google Streetviews at Mundy Play Centre, Markeaton Park, Derby. Normally it would be impossible to take photographs here as its would be full of people, but I've managed to capture it with nobody here a couple of hours before the Race for Life event.
Also because it was early everywhere was clean and tidy without rubbish.

My visit to Duffield Castle with 360 Streetviews of this National Trust property.

My visit to Duffield Castle with my 360 degree Google Streetviews of this National Trust property.
"The remains of one of England's largest 13th-century castles"

Being a National Trust member I thought I would check out this site, I didn't actually know this was here until I got the National Trust handbook. I knew there was not a lot to see up there but was surprised by what state the site was in. The grass was so overgrown that it took me a while to find any remains, you can only see them in my 360 google streetviews because my camera was 10 foot high!

There were no information panels telling you stuff about the site either so left disappointed :(

The steps up Duffield Castle site are very overgrown, this makes it dark, there is no way you would want to go up here when its getting dark.

Stockport Beer and Cider Festival 2016 - 360 views around the festival.

Today is the last day of the 2016 Stockport Beer and Cider Festival which is held at Stockport County Footbal Club, Edgeley Park, Hardcastle Rd, Stockport, Cheshire SK3 9DD.

This year I offered to take some 360 degree photographs for Google Streetview to help the festival. I took them before the general public were allowed in on the Thursday and some at other points as well. One of the unique things about this beer festival is that because it takes place in a football stadium there are hundreds of seats to choose from.

My unique 360 degree photographs from the very top of Derby Guildhall theatre during repairs.

In 2008 I was given the chance to climb to the top of Derby's Guildhall theatre while it was having some repairs done to the roof. I used this opportunity to take several 360 degree photographs from this unique vantage point. Its only now, eight years later that I have finally found a suitable medium for showing them off. I have added them to Google Streetview so everyone can now see what I was able to see back then.

I would like to thank Richard Grant for his help and kind offer for me to climb all the way to the top of the Guildhall in Derby, sorry its taken a while to get them online for everyone to view.
I captured my panoramas from five different positions around the scaffolding boards.

I captured all of these 360 degree photographs on Friday, February 08, 2008. Back then we had the big BBC screen on the market place and the Water Feature was still running. Derby Westfield (now intu) has only opened the previous year and the Quad building was still being built!

The Water Feature, Derby Market Place in 360 degree photography. A record of how it used to look before it was turned off in 2016. "Derby Cascade" running since 1995

Love it or Hate it, everyone knows the water feature as its been there running for 21 years. The water pump was turned off for good at 11am on March 31st 2016.

In March 2016 it was announced by Derby City Council that the Water feature on Derby Market Place would be switched off.  All the authority's water features are being turned off to save £63,000 in running costs during 2016-17 and £32,000 in each future year!

Upon hearing this news I decided to capture the water feature from many different angles in 360 degrees so we can remember how it used to be before it was turned off. I have added all of these 360's to Google Streetview so they are available to view by everyone. If you want to see them via a map, go to Google Maps then drag the orange peg man over Derby Market Place and look for the small blue circles around the Water Feature and then drop the peg man directy onto one of them to view it or simply use the links below.

Did you know that the Water feature was designed by artist William Pye was installed in March 1995.
"Derby Cascade" which is its correct name, is 3.5 metres high and 12 metres in diameter.

My 360 view of the Cenotaph in Derby Market Place, Derby.

Here is a 360 degree view I captured of the Cenotaph in Derby Market Place.
I took this back in June 2010 but have now added it to Google Streetview seeing as its such a nice view. Click the fullscreen icon to view it at its best.

This war memorial was designed by C C Thompson and was built in the Market Place in 1924 by A G Walker. In this view you can also see the Guild Hall, the Quad and the now disused Assembly Rooms.

Belper Farmers Market, 2nd Saturday of every month. Get some lovely local produce!

Belper Farmers' Market takes place on the second Saturday of every month. The market runs from 8:30am to 1pm on Belper Market Place, Belper, Derbyshire.

When leaving you exit between the Cross Keys and the black Swan pub.

The copper building in Derby, my 360 degree photos on google Maps

Some 360 degree photographs I took of One Friar Gate Square aka the Copper building in Derby at the end of Agard Street where it meets Ford Street. There are plans to build two more modern looking building next to this one. these would be located inline with the old Friargate railway bridge. I decided to create these 360s before these new buildings are in place, thus capturing this view before its too late !

This is me testing methods of embedding my 360 degree photos from Google Maps into my blog.
Allows full control over initial view etc. Do they work for you?

Ashbourne Football - View the Clifton and Sturston Goals in 360 degrees !

I have created two unique 360 photographs for Ashbourne Football, These allow you to see what its like to stand in front of the goals. These goals are 3 miles apart!
During the Shrovetide football game the area around these goals would be total chaos and very muddy so I thought it would be great to capture the goals when there were more peaceful.
These are high resolution photographs so may take a while to load if your broadband is slow. you can make them fullscreen using the control icons at the bottom.

Red Bull Quadcopter, 360 degree and high tech filming at Ashbourne Shrovetide Football 2014.

While I was at this years Ashbourne Shrovetide Football on Tuesday 4th March and Wednesday 5th of March I noticed some new and unusual filming going on. Perhaps you saw them too?

The first thing that was rather obvious was a quadcopter flying over the crowd, well just out of the way of the crowd.
Apparently this was being filmed for Red Bull, I took two photographs of the Quadcopter when it landed.
As you can see its being controlled by two people, one to fly the quadcopter and another operator for the camera control.
This is a nice bit of kit, must have some serious power in those 8 blades to lift that camera up, it was very stable in the air too.

Film Crew No 2
Another filming unit I saw consisted of four people. This consisted of a very fancy camera which was held aloft, a microphone boom operator, a camera operator and a support guy.
I took a few photographs of this crew.
The camera that was being help up in the air has all sorts of interesting stuff on it. As you can see the actual camera is hung below the framework. This is being controlled remotely by the woman. She has a screen shield to view the footage and a remote control to control the view that is being captured.











Film Crew No. 3
Another capturing method I saw a few of was a 360 degree camera on a pole. I saw a few of these during the game.
As you can see it consists of 6 small wide angle cameras made into the shape of a cube.
Not sure if they were capturing single shot 360 degree images or 360 degree video.

The 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration stage at Darley Park in 360 degrees

Here is a 360 degree panoramic photograph of the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration stage at Darley Park, Derby. This was photographed only a few hours before the Olympic torch is due to arrive here.
As you can see rehearsals are in full swing on the stage ready for when the Olympic torch arrives here later on this evening in just a few hours from now this area will be very busy.

Video of my 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown Coin, 360° Object photography using stop motion capture.

Seeing as the Queens Diamond Jubilee is here soon I thought I would have a go at doing some 360° Object photography to celebrate. I have never tried 360° Object photography before. I used stop motion capture to collect the frame sequence.

I recently found this coin that I was given as a child in Primary School back in 1977 to celebrate the Queens Silver Jubilee. I think all the children in my class at school were given these as a gifts at the time. Can't imagine that happening today can you!



Coin Specifications :
Metal: Cupro-Nickel
Diameter: 38.61mm
Weight: 28.28g

You'd think this coin would be worth quite a lot but I see there are lots on ebay for £1-£2, oh well.

The complete 360 rotation of the coin is made from 294 photographs.
I used my Canon Ixus 430 in Macro mode and triggered it using PSRemote in time-lapse mode.
Each photograph is 2272x1704 pixels, I have cropped them down to 16:9 aspect ratio and 1080p resolution for Youtube video format.

To rotate the coin I put a tiny bit of glue on the edge of the coin and stuck it onto a spindle that allowed me to rotate it a tiny amount from underneath.
As you may notice I got a bit bored after 180 degrees of turning it a tiny amount each time so the 2nd side of the coin moves a bit quicker.

Its not too bad for a first attempt, what do you think?
The main problem seems to be focus which starts having trouble when the edge of the coin is close to the lens.
I'm happy with the stability of the shots, nothing has moved from frame 1 to frame 294.
Exposure is pretty good as is the detail picked out by the lens.
There is a lot to think about when doing 360° Object photography such as reflections and lighting.

Dunelm Mill , New store opens on Ascot Drive, Derby on December 15th 2011.

Dunelm Mill will open its new store on the corner of Ascot Drive and London Road this Thursday.
Thats December 15th 2011.
Dunelm is a Home textiles business with over 120 stores across the UK.
The Dunelm store that was located half way down Ascot Drive on the Osmaston Park Industrial Estate has now closed and relocated to this new larger store. This new Dunelm store has a floor space of 36,700sq ft so they can stock more lines. It even has a coffee shop "Pausa Cafe". It has increased the car parking spaces from 80 to 182. They offer a "Reserve and Collect" service where you can order items online

You may remember that this corner plot of land had been empty for a few years since B&Q relocated to Osmaston Park Road. Good to finally see it being put to use.

I have created a high resolution 360 degree view of this new Dunelm store so you can see where exactly it is located. Its like Google Streetview but more detailed and recent, as I only photographed it on Friday!
As you will see in my 360 degree view its quite a large store on the corner of Ascot Drive and London Road.

World Wide Panorama - Best of 2010 - Dovedale Stepping Stones.

Regular visitors to my blog may be familiar with my 360x180 degree photography and my submissions on the World Wide Panorama website. The last event closed in January and the theme for this event was "best of 2010" so for my entry I submitted a panorama I took in the middle of Dovedale Stepping Stones.
