Pets at Home outlet now open at Kingsway Retail Park, Derby. September 2012.

The new Pets at Home outlet opened at Kingsway Retail Park, Derby at 9am on Friday 21st September 2012. I dare say that if you were in the area over the weekend you would have seen the massive green advertising balloon floating high over Kingsway Retail Park. The car park was extreamly busy on Saturday and Sunday.
You may remember that Pets at home used to be located at Kingsway Retail Park a few year back but left in the early 2000s, well now its back and a better store.

The store is also home to an adoption centre which finds homes for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and other small animals.

The retailer, which already has an outlet at the Meteor Centre, in Mansfield Road, has invested more than £500,000 in the Kingsway store and has created six jobs.


It stocks pet products for dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles, chickens, birds, fish and wildlife, as well as providing a pet grooming service.....

Flashback to the 80s Concert on Saturday 18th August 2012 at Clumber Park.

On Saturday 18th August 2012 the Flashback to the 80s Concert will take place at Clumber Park.

Looking at this stage the weather is looked very good, see weather for Chesterfield (the nearest place to the gig) - Weather for the 80's flashback festival.

If you do go to this I suggest you make your chairs stand out from the crowd as the main problem is finding where you are sat if you go to the toilet as there are so many people here.
There are food stalls around the venue but you can also take in food and a picknik.

Derby Caribbean Carnival 2012 on Saturday 21st July. Family fun day on Osmaston Park on Sunday August 26th.

UPDATE NEWS 23/08/2012 -  The Family fun day on Osmaston Park that was to take place on 26th August has now been cancelled due to some silly "administrative error" in not getting a alcohol permit in time. Seems a bit silly to cancel the entire event for this as I thought it was "all about the live music and family", The DWICA may have made a bad decision cancelling it because of this reason, time will tell !

This years Derby Caribbean Carnival will take place this Saturday, 21st July 2012.
The Family fun day on Osmaston Park however will not take place the day after the carnival but will in fact take place on Sunday 26th August. The Osmaston Park fun day would have taken place on July 22nd but this has had to be changed due to the recent bad weather.

The weather looks like its going to be dry, sunny and warm for the Carnival on Saturday afternoon which is good news and lucky for them after all those weeks of rain.

My 2012 Derby Caribbean Carnival Guide.

Here is my complete guide to this years Derby Carnival. Complete with detailed route map for the procession so you know where the best place to stand along the route to get a view of the dancers and their great costumes. I have also provided a smartphone mapping pin. The procession generally moves very slowly so if you have trouble getting here and parking then don't worry as you can soon catch up with the front of it.

On Saturday 21st July 2012 the 37th Derby Caribbean Carnival Parade will take place, show your support for this annual event. Its always very popular and attracts lots of people. Derby's annual Caribbean Carnival has been running since 1975 !

The Procession starts at 1pm from Pear Tree Street in Derby. After leaving Pear Tree Street, it turns right onto Portland Street, right onto St Thomas Road, Left at the mini round-a-bout onto Pear Tree Road, right up Normanton Road to very top where it meets Lara Croft Way/Mercian Way, Down Babington Lane, left onto St Peters Street, down The Corn Market and finally onto Derby Market Place at about 3pm for the carnival showcase and live performances.

If you are a car driver and are around this area then expect to have to wait while the carnival passes through. Also the Bus route will have to change while it goes up Normanton road.

The weather forecast for the Derby Carnival does not tooo bad at the moment so hopefully there won't be and rain for the procession. If you are driving in from another city then you can always have a look at my local webcams to see for yourself if its raining right now.

360 degree tour Darley Park for the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration and Darley Park Concert.

I have been working for several weeks on a complete virtual tour of Darley Park in preperation for the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration and Darley Park Concert which are both taking place in this park.
This will allow people around the world to look around the park in great detail using my full spherical 360° x 180° panoramas taken at various places. Mostly in May this year but I have also included some from years past that have never been seen before.

I have just been to Darley Park (Wednesday 27th June 2012) and taken a new panorama on the slope in front of the stage which is currently being erected ready for Friday and Saturday.

This is a very large panorama and you should only attempt to view it if you have at least a 10Mb broadband connection otherwise it will take too long to load in.

In my panorama you can see the stage taking shape next to the Derwent, as you can see its going to be quite a big stage and the location withing Darley Park should allow everyone to get a good view of the events.

Also I retook a panorama in front of the new Terrace Cafe area that is almost ready to reopen after months of redevelopment.

The Olympic Torch arrives in Derby on Friday June 29th 2012 at 6:25pm at Markeaton roundabout.
When the torch reaches the Olympic Torch Celebrations stage in Darley Park Double world Superbike champion James Toseland will light the Olympic cauldron.
The celebration, being broadcast live on BBC1, will include performances from urban pop star Loick Essien and Britain's Got Talent 2010 runners-up Twist and Pulse.

If you miss the torch on Friday then you still have a chance to see it early on Saturday. It will leave Derby Market Place at 6:41am
The very last chance you have to see it in Derby is at Royal Derby Hospital at 7:17am on 30th June 2012. It will leave there on its way to Burton on Trent.

TK Maxx opens new massive store at Kingsway Retail Park, Derby on Thursday 3rd May 2012.

The new TK Maxx store is set to open at Kingsway Retail Park Derby on Thursday 3rd May 2012.

The first 500 people through the door on opening day will receive a free £10 voucher to spend in the store.

Its located in the former Best Buys store that closed in January 2012.
This new TK Maxx Derby store has floor space of 28,554sq ft. It will sell clothes, shoes and accessories for men, women and children as well as toys and homeware with a much larger range of items than the East Street store. The East Street TK Maxx store will close down on the 2nd May, All staff from that outlet transferring to the Kingsway retail park store.

Car Boot Sale - Pride Park Stadium on Sunday 25th March 2012.

The Pride Part Stadium Car Boot Sale will take place on Sunday 25th March 2012.
The car boot sale will be held from 10am and 2pm.

Derby County fans that have items to sell can bring their boot full with them to the home of the Rams and will be charged just £10 for a pitch.

Buyers will be given access to the Car Boot free of charge.

The 2012 CAMRA Derby Winter Beer Festival Wednesday 15th February to Saturday 18th February.

It does not seem long since the Derby Summer beer festival was here does it, well now its not long until the Derby Winterfest 2012. Which is the 11th winter beer festival to take place in Derby.

If you have never been to a beer festival before then you are missing an experience, there are not just beers on sale there are ciders and Perries.  You can get some hot or cold food too. T-shirts and glasses are available to buy. And great live music to watch each day.

If you are a new visitor to Derby's winter beer festival then you will find my smartphone navigation pin of use. Simply view this blog on your smartphone and follow my instruction below.

When you tap the link above, it will launch your mapping application and place a "push pin" onto the map with the exact location of Derby Roundhouse beer festival. You can then use this marker to get walking directions.

So all you need to do is just tap the "Route" button at the bottom then tap the walking icon and it will show you walking route. With regards to Cider and Perry, the tub labels should tell most of what you need to know when ordering. Green labels are cider and yellow labels are perry.
Good to see they have Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon on as this was on in The Babington Arms and the Standing Order but sold out before I had chance to even try it !
We also have Three Cats Morley a local cider on again which was also on at the GBBF in London.
Also the classic Broadoak Perry.

Its that time of year again when our annual free Bonfire and Fireworks event takes place at Markeaton Park, Derby.
There will be a Funfair on Markeaton Park from 2pm to 9pm

Stage entertainment from 4.45pm

Access to Markeaton Park for the Bonfire and Fireworks is restricted for safety reasons.
The main entrance to the park, off the A38, will be open for pedestrians. There will be no pedestrian access through the Mundy Play Centre, or across any of the three bridges into the park.

The main entrance to the Mundy Play Centre will also be closed, and the Mundy Play Centre car park will close at 2.30pm. Anyone who parks in this car park to use the park during the day should ensure that their vehicle is moved by 2.30pm. Markeaton Lane is closed to all vehicles between 3pm and 9pm, to allow safe access for pedestrians. The Police will control the road closure.

Pedestrians coming from The University of Derby car park will be directed across the pedestrian crossing on Kedleston Road and will access the park from Queensway next to the footbridge over the A38. Pedestrians coming along Kedleston Road from the city centre will also be directed via Queensway. Pedestrians from the Quarndon/Allestree areas will be directed down Markeaton Lane into the rear entrance to the park.

If you don't want to get caught up in all the mud, crowds and traffic but want to see the fireworks then I suggest going on the roof car park at Park Farm, Allestree. Don't tell everyone though !

The weather is looking like it may be dry for this year.

Video of a Time-lapse car journey from Derby to the Clumber Park 80's Flashback Festival in August 2011.

Two weeks ago on Saturday 20th August I went to the 80's Flashback Festival at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire. This video is a time-lapse car drive from Derby to Clumber Park and includes a few seconds of the groups as well as the amazing Firework display at the end.

The main acts this year were Toyah Willcox, Nik Kershaw, Heaven 17, Level 42 and The Human League. The show finished with an amzing firework display which you can see at the end of my driving video.

The first band came on stage about 5pm that was Wham Duran (a tribute band) and the Headline Act The League did not finish their set until 11pm !

I have recorded this at 1080p so if you have a very fast PC and superfast Internet connection then set to 1080p Full Screen for the best view of it.

It was recorded on Saturday 20th August 2011.

All the groups did a great show, I liked The Heaven 17 tracks best of all. They did an amzing long version of Temptation which you can see in this video - Heaven 17 Temptation at Clumber Park 2011.

This weekend on Sunday 4th September 2011 is the Annual FREE outdoor classical concert and fireworks display at Darley Park, Derby.
This event normally attracts crowds of around 30,000 This years show will be hosted by Classic FM presenter Mark Forrest.
Among those scheduled to perform are Derby-based orchestra sinfonia ViVA, regular Darley Park Concert conductor James Holmes and international soloist Mary Carewe.
The programme of music will include pieces from Copland, Waldteufel, Joplin, Gershwin, Bernstein, Strauss, Sibelius, Dietrich and Offenbach.

Actor Luke Roberts, from Channel Five show Hi-5 and who will star as Dick Whittington in this year's pantomime at the Assembly Rooms, will also appear. It ends with a spectacular firework finale.

If you are travelling in to Derby from afar then its best to get here early as this event is always very popular.

Autumn is on its way, Markeaton Park in Autumn video.

The Big 1 Chaddesden Park (Chaddesden Carnival) is on Sunday June 6th 2010.

This Sunday, June 6th 2010 is when this years Big One takes place on Chaddesden Park in Derby. Now in its 30th year (The Big 1 was formally known as Chaddesden Carnival).

This annual festival which has taken place for many years returns to Chaddesden Park again and is expected to attract around 20,000 people.

Events and attractions include a live music stage, entertainment arenas, dance acts and more. There'll also be arts, crafts and fun workshops, charity and information stalls, food and drink stalls, Cycle Derby events.
A fun dog show, Falconry display, fun fair, climbing walls, Donkey rides, balloon modelling, face and pot painting, circus skills, Japanese kites and lots of stalls. There is even a Car Boot sale.

There will also be a variety of free arts activities to take part in, and a music stage with various bands and other artists.
Age Concern Chaddesden Park (next to the library) will be open from 11.30am to 3.30pm presenting The Feel Good Factor. A day to relax and enjoy talking to experienced therapists about enhancing your health and energy the alternative way. There will be demonstrations throughout the day and the opportunity to try out some of the therapies.

There will also be a Fair Ground on Chaddesden Park from Wednesday 2nd June to Sunday 6th June.

The Chaddesden Carnival will begin with a parade of people in fancy dress, decorated pushchairs and mobility scooters. The parade will start at 11.30am, from Sussex Circus Local Housing Office and will proceed along Max Road, Wood Road, Chaddesden Lane, Maine Drive and then onto the park.
Line the route to cheer along the people taking part!

There will be a "graffiti mural", a plywood panel which is 50ft by 8ft, fixed to the sports pavilion.
It will stay in the park afterwards and will provide a "legacy for Chaddesden Park". It will be sprayed by some of the country's leading graffiti artists.

You may remember that last years Big 1 at Chaddesden had to be cancelled twice due to heavy rain left the park waterlogged, first time it was cancelled was the 7th June so it was rearranged for August 2nd but yet again heavy rain forced the festival to be cancelled. Hopefully this year the weather will be better for them.

Here is a detailed map showing the location of Chaddesden Park and also the Parade route that will take place at 11:30 on 6th June. I'm sure that everyone already knows where Chaddesden Park is but perhaps you are visiting from outside and are not aware of its location. Parking near the park is limited so its best to try and catch  a bus or walk or get someone to drop you off!

Following on from my last post about where to go sledging in Derby here is a HD video I made on Friday at Darley Park. As you can see this is a very good park for sledging.

The snow you can see here in my video settled on Tuesday night and is still showing no signs of melting yet. It has snowed a few times since then as well but not as much as last Tuesday.

Its snowing again right now and more snow to come Sunday.

Markeaton Park Bonfire and fireworks Display, Derby. 1st November

This video is of footage I took at the 2007 display, Well this weekend sees the 2009 display. The 22-minute free show is this Sunday, 1st November 2009.
This year will be better than ever, with 866 fireworks!

The fun kicks off in Markeaton Park with a sponsored fire-walk taking place in front of the stage from 5pm. Entertainment will be compared by Ram FM's Dino and Pete, and provided by finalists from Ram FM and Derby LIVE's Fame Factor.

The bonfire will be lit at 5.45pm and the fireworks begin at 6pm.
A fun-fair will be running from 2pm to 9pm and a variety of stalls will be selling hot food.
Access to Markeaton Park for the display is restricted for safety reasons.
The main entrance to the park, off the A38, will be open for pedestrians.
However, there will be no pedestrian access through the Mundy Play Centre, or across any of the three bridges into the park.
Markeaton Lane is being closed to all vehicles between 3pm and 9pm, to allow safe access for pedestrians.

Please note: The fireworks display is stated at being at 6 on all websites apart from one of two Ram FM pages which says 7!
The derby council website, derbylive website, derby telegraph website, bbc derby website ALL say 6 so not sure what the correct start time is. Someone seems to have made a mistake with the starting time, so be aware you may have to wait for an hour.

At this time (Thursday) the weather for Sunday looks very bad with wind and heavy rain but you never know it may be ok by the time we get to Sunday.

This Sunday, 6th September 2009 sees the annual Darley Park Concert, Britains biggest FREE classical concert.
The concert takes place in the natural amphitheatre of Darley Park which is located in Darley Abbey, Derby, Derbyshire, U.K.

Starting at 5.30pm, With an amazing firework finale, attracting crowds of around 30,000.
2009 is the international year of Astronomy, marking several momentous events – the 40th anniversary of the first manned landing on the Moon and the 400th anniversary of the use of the telescope by Galileo Galilei to observe the moon and planet Jupiter.
Sinfonia VIVA and regular Darley Park concert conductor, James Holmes will be performing a spectacular programme of music with links to all things astronomical.

Admission is FREE, car parking is £5.
Personally I’ve found its best to walk in or get someone to give a you a lift as this event attracts so many people that you may have trouble parking nearby.

Its also worth taking a torch with you as its not very well lit on the entrances into Darley Park and due to the large amount of people you may tread on someones toes !
